Snow Day 01/01/2021

We rarely get any significant amount of snow in Central Texas and when we do it's fun to just get out and play in the snow.  The snow actually started falling the evening of December 31, 2020, and was pretty much gone by the afternoon of January 1st, 2021.  I decided to photograph just before sunrise on the 1st. in the backyard and across the street in Cogging Park., with the intent of doing some Black and White images.
Tech info:  Olympus OM-D-EM1Marklll, and Olympus 9-18mm, f/4-5.6 Lens. Processed in Lightroom and DxO PhotoLab 4.1.  Click on an image for Larger View.

Color, light, and paper

Fun with Color, Light, and Paper is a photography project that peaked my interest in Abstracts.  Paper is the subject, but playing with Color and Light made the forms and shadows so very interesting.  The creative juices start flowing when you let your imagination go wild.

See the Gallery below for some Before and After examples. (Click on the thumbnail to enlarge)

What's Needed: For video tutorials search YouTube for Abstract Paper Photography.  There are a number of examples on set-up for table tops and lighting sources.
  1. Obviously Paper.  I used a pack of letter size Astrobright colored paper purchased at Walmart.  Fold or roll the paper into any number of shapes.
  2. Paper Clips or Bobbie Pins
  3. Light...Any light source you can control, e.g. Lamp, Flash, Strobe, FlashLight, LCD panel, etc. You need to be able to light subject paper from below and above.
  4. Table top set-up...Search YouTube for examples.  I used a small slide/negative light table large enough for letter size paper.  Different colored paper was used on the light table for a variety of "below" colored light source.
  5. Camera/Lens...Any combination suitable for Macro or Close-up photography.  I used the Olympus Tough TG-6 camera with a diffused light adaptor.
  6. Photo Editing Software...The examples were done in Adobe Lightroom
  7. IMAGINATION...Remember the intent is to use the light to create form and shadows with the paper, and including some texture is an added feature. Tight cropping, rotating the image, changing white balance, contrast, Vibrance, Hue, Saturation, Luminance can have enormous effects and pleasing results.
The Comments are open.  I would like to see what you've come up with.
