Not long ago I sold my Nikon D5000 and most of it's accessories and purchased a refurbished D7100 at a very reasonable price. I really like the camera and have been impressed with it's capabilities. However, the other day I wanted to take some low level photos of flowers at ground level. NOTE: over the past couple of years I have been using a Sony NEX-5 and A-6000 mirrorless Camera with an adjustable LCD screen for most of my photography. In similar situations I would just set the camera at ground level, adjust the screen and compose in live-view pretty much standing or kneeling over the camera. Not so with the D7100 with its stationary LCD screen. At my age laying flat on the ground or straining my neck to view the screen or eye piece is not a easy thing to do. Getting down is the easy part, getting back up is a more difficult situation. To the rescue, the Nikon DR6 Right Angle Viewer. Found this one on eBay in excellent condition at less than half the cost of a new one. It rotates 360 degrees and can magnify up to 2x. At 1x it shows the entire viewfinder. Not sure how often I'll use it for low level shooting, but for now it solved the problem. At the same time I found a battery grip for the unit. This is a Vello BG-N11 unit from BHPhoto and it's a solid fit for the D7100.
So what other accessory do I think I need? The camera with the battery grip has become quiet heavy, especially with a long telephoto lens. I don't like to use a neck or shoulder strap for any length of time and prefer to hand hold the camera. Wouldn't a hand strap be handy? I'm currently looking at the Spider Pro Hand Strap. Anyone using this Strap or have suggestions would be much appreciated. In fact, is there any other accessory(s) you think this "camera junkie" might need?
